First Timers for Oktoberfest

My buddy and I are planning to go to Oktoberfest next year, 2010.

We were wondering where to start? We may or may not have more people coming, but you seem to know exactly what to do. So any help you could give us would be much appreciated.

My apologies for not knowing exactly how many people are going, I realize that is a significant factor.

Thanks ahead of time for your help!

Hi Mallory,

Thanks for the kind words!

Actually, it's not difficult to go to Oktoberfest and I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun :-)

First and most important is to secure reasonably priced hotel rooms. If you check for this year, you'll see that most hotels are already booked out and prices rise sky-high.

My best tip for you is to book your hotel accommodation for next year as soon as possible.
Check here for cheap hotels

If you know that you are coming with 10 persons, then go ahead and try to make a reservation, as early as January next year.

Otherwise just go to the Theresienwiese (the place where Oktoberfest is held) and check out the tents.
Stick to some easy rules, that I have written about here and you'll definitely find a place inside one of the tents and enjoy yourself.

By the way, there are lots more attractions than "just" drinking beer: try the different fun rides, food and off course the observation wheel for a great view of Munich.

I've taken groups over for a few years and have some information on my website.

I also blogged about some of the happenings in the tent here:

Another good resource is the book, Oktoberfest Insider Guide (Paperback) by Sabine Kafer

Larry Hawthorne also write a great guide called the Beer Drinker's Guide to Munich
