Residence Permit for Relative

Hello there,





I am interested in living in Germany with my sister; neither she or I are German, though! She currently lives there because she is an employee of the U.S. government (NOT military). I would like to stay with her longer than the allotted 90 days per six months. Am I eligible to apply for a residence visa/permit (with or without a work permit) as her sister?

I am a Mexican citizen and she is an American Citizen. This does not seem to be a type of case that comes up too often and even the German consul representative who we spoke to was a bit confused.

We would greatly appreciate some assistance with this matter.

Hi Ana,

sorry to not be of much help. If even the German consul is confused, I can't give any specific advice.

Maybe you could talk to a lawyer specialized in German immigration law.
