Train from Munich to Oberammergau

by Hugh
(London, England)

My wife and I will be in Munich in the second week of August and on the Friday we wish to travel to Oberammergau for the performance that day.

Should we book our train tickets in advance? (We wonder whether the trains will be very full and so we need to make sure in advance that we can get on the relevant train.) Thank you.

Hi Hugh,

I'm sure you'll love the performance. We're going there ourselves this year for the first time.
Get information about Oberammergau Passion Play

Oberammergau is a sight in itself, even with out the Passion Play, so make sure you have enough time to stroll around and admire those lovely Bavarian houses.

There's a train leaving Munich every hour, but as it's one of the local trains, there's no possibility to reserve seats.
If it's full then you have to stand for the aprox. 2 hours the journey takes.

If you want to return the same day to Munich, I recommend you rent a car, because the last train to Munich leaves at 22.43h, and the play lasts until 22.30h.

This might not be enough time to catch the train.

Have fun!
