Which tent to go at Oktoberfest?
Hi:)
We're (4 persons) planning on going to Oktoberfest this year, but we're not exactly sure which tent would suit us the best.
We're between the ages of 22 - 24, both boys and girls, and we'd love to go to a tent that's full of life, has a great atmosphere and which is full of other young people who enjoy a good drink. Please would you help us choose?
Basically we'd love to go to a tent that epitomizes what Oktoberfest is all about.
Thanx so much! Your site has been so incredibly helpful!

Hi Kate,
Definitely the most popular tent among young people in their teens and early twenties is the Schottenhamel tent. Personally I think it's too full and the crowd is too young, but then I'm not in my twenties anymore :-)
My favorite tent is the Winzerer Fähndl, that has great atmosphere, is a little bit less crowded and people tend to be older than 20. It is the tent where local television transmitts live during the 2 weeks of Oktoberfest.
In contrast, Hofbräu Festzelt is the beer tent with the most foreigners and the music is a bit more adapted to international taste.
But don't be frustrated, if you can't get into your favorite tent, all tents have a great atmosphere and I guarantee that you will enjoy yourself in anyone of them:-)
You can have a peek inside all of the 14 tents on my website here:

Oktoberfest is the world's largest music festival held every year in Munich. People from all over the world participate in this event. Selection of tent is entirely dependent on your choice, if you want to stay with people from different origins then Hofbräuzelt is recommended.

Hopping from tent to tent sounds good in theory but not in reality
Hi Warren,
What your Austrian friends told you seems reasonable and definitely is a good way to go, but there is one big BUT:
This strategy will only work on weekday in the morning and early afternoon. Afterward, tents will be full and if you're one of the lucky ones to have found a seat, you don't leave it !
Chances are, you'll not be able to get into another tent again that day :-(

South Africa taking on the Deutsch
Hey there. This would be my first Oktoberfest. But from what I hear, from the Austrians here, the best thing is if you jump from tent to tent, till you find one that is good for you.
The party is not the location but the people, and they never stay the same.
I can't wait to see another South African. If you wanna maybe meet up warren.mckay at rocketmail.com
Don't forget to show them how to sokkie!
