Can I get a job in Munich?

I'm thinking of moving to Germany and I would like to find out if I need a visa and where I can apply for a job in Munich.

I'm US citizen planning to move there sometime at the beginning of 2009.

US Citizens Need a Visa to Work in Germany
by: Marion

Hi Jason,

as a US citizen you need in any case a visa for Germany, if you plan to stay longer than 90 days and/or work or study here.

For working in Germany, you need to obtain a so called "Aufenthaltstitel" (registered stay status). This can be obtained after entering
Germany at the "Ausländerbehörde" (communal foreigners authority).
Find more detail here:

But I would strongly advice you to go the German embassy/consulate nearest to you and ask about the concrete steps to undertake, as these laws can change quite frequently.

Usually you need to find a job first, before the work permit is granted, and it is tied to this particular company, so you won't be able to change jobs easily.

I recently wrote a blog post with suggestions for where to start looking for a job in Germany: http://www.zurika.com/2008/08/7-internet-resources-to-help-you-find.html

Good luck!
