Hi Bruce,
The opening parade is always on the first Saturday and starts at 10.50h in the Sonnenstraße, follows Schwanthalerstraße until it reaches the Theresienwiese. Duration is one hour.
Impressions from the opening parade
In order to get a good view and stand in the first line you should arrive at least half an hour before the start.
If you're willing to spend 24,50 Euros you can buy tickets for one of three tribunes:
*Sonnenstraße in front of the bank "Hausbank"
*Sonnenstraße in front of Lindberg
*Sonnenstraße where the little lawn is
Tickets can be bought at Muenchen Ticket.
As for the fun rides, they all have different prices.
Most of them are probably in the range of 4-8 Euros per person. Tuesday until 6 p.m. is family day where most of the rides have discounted prices.
